Training Camp Marks 10 Years of Certification Boot Camps

PHILADELPHIA — February 2009 — Training Camp marked ten years of accelerated certification boot camps this month, a decade after it opened with a short catalog of security and networking courses.

The company started in 1999 with a handful of courses and a simple premise. Bring professionals into a classroom, teach the material intensively, and get them certified in days rather than stretching study across months. That format held up, and over ten years the catalog grew well beyond its original security and networking roots.

Along the way Training Camp became an official training partner for a range of certifying bodies, including (ISC)², EC-Council, CompTIA, Microsoft, and Cisco. That mix reflected how broad enterprise IT had become, spanning security, networking, operating systems, and infrastructure. Tens of thousands of students passed through its classrooms, from individuals paying their own way to corporate, government, and military teams sent to get certified together.

What did not change was the delivery. Every course stayed built around live instruction and hands-on labs, taught in person by certified instructors. The bet from the beginning was that people learn faster in a room with someone who has done the work and can answer the question behind the question. Ten years of repeat corporate business suggested the bet held. Intensity is not for everyone, and the company has always been direct that the pace demands real focus.

“We started with a short list of courses and a belief that people learn best when they are in the room, working through it,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “Ten years later the catalog is much larger, but the way we teach has not really changed.”

The certification market itself had grown considerably since 1999, and demand for accelerated, exam-focused training continued to track the pace at which employers wanted credentialed staff.
