Alert Fatigue Definition: Alert fatigue is analyst desensitization from excessive security alerts, causing missed threats and burnout, mitigated by tuning and SOAR automation.
Alert fatigue is the desensitization that security analysts experience when overwhelmed by a high volume of alerts, many of them false positives or low-priority, causing them to miss, ignore, or slowly respond to genuine threats. It is a major operational challenge in security operations centers and a driver of analyst burnout and turnover. Mitigations include tuning detection rules, prioritizing and correlating alerts, and using automation through SOAR platforms to reduce noise.
