Understanding Broadcast

Broadcast refers to a network transmission mode in which data, messages, or signals are sent from a single source to all devices on a network segment simultaneously, rather than to a specific recipient. Broadcasts are commonly used for tasks such as address resolution (ARP) and DHCP discovery within a local network (broadcast domain). Because broadcast traffic reaches every host on the segment, excessive broadcasts can degrade performance and the traffic can be observed by any device on the segment.
