EXIF Data Definition: EXIF data is metadata embedded in images, including timestamps, camera settings, and GPS, valuable for forensics and a privacy concern when shared.
EXIF data, short for Exchangeable Image File Format metadata, is information embedded in image and audio files by cameras and smartphones, including timestamps, camera settings, and often GPS coordinates. In digital forensics, EXIF metadata can help establish when and where a photo was taken and what device produced it. Because it can reveal location and device details, EXIF data also poses a privacy risk when images are shared publicly.
