Understanding Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP)

An identity-aware proxy IAP is a security gateway that enforces access to applications based on user and device identity and context rather than network location. Sitting in front of resources, it authenticates and authorizes each request, applying least-privilege policies and serving as a core building block of zero trust network access. Cloud providers such as Google Cloud offer managed IAP services to replace traditional VPN-based perimeter access.
