The EU NIS2 Directive expands cybersecurity and incident-reporting obligations across critical sectors, replacing the 2016 NIS Directive.
NIS2 Directive Definition: The EU NIS2 Directive expands cybersecurity and incident-reporting obligations across critical sectors, replacing the 2016 NIS Directive.
The NIS2 Directive is European Union legislation, formally Directive 2022 2555, that strengthens cybersecurity requirements across critical and important sectors and replaces the original 2016 NIS Directive. It expands the scope to more sectors and entities, mandates risk management measures, imposes strict incident reporting timelines, and introduces management accountability and significant penalties. EU member states were required to transpose it into national law by October 2024.
