Understanding PIM Sparse Mode

PIM Sparse Mode (Protocol Independent Multicast Sparse Mode) is a multicast routing protocol used in computer networks to efficiently deliver multicast traffic by sending data packets only to network segments that have specifically requested the data. Sparse Mode requires explicit requests from network devices to receive multicast data, reducing unnecessary network traffic and conserving network resources compared to Dense Mode, which floods multicast data to all network segments by default.
