Training Camp Adds AWS Professional-Level Certification Training

PHILADELPHIA — 2014 — Training Camp has added training for the professional-level tier of the Amazon Web Services certification program, the more advanced exams AWS introduced as the program grew beyond its first associate credentials.

The associate certifications established a baseline. The professional tier raised it. These exams expect an architect or engineer to weigh real design tradeoffs under real constraints, choosing among services when several could plausibly do the job and defending the choice on cost, performance, and durability. Guesswork does not survive that format for long.

The training is meant for people who already have meaningful hands-on time on AWS and need to prove they can operate at scale. Someone new to the platform would be better served starting a tier lower. Training Camp built the professional courses around scenario work in the console, since the exams describe messy situations rather than tidy definitions, and candidates do better when they have already worked through similar problems in a lab.

By 2014 AWS had become a default choice for a growing share of new infrastructure, and organizations running significant workloads on it wanted assurance that the people managing those systems could handle more than a demo. The professional exams answered that by pressing on judgment: sizing for cost against performance, planning for failure, and deciding when a managed service earns its keep over a hand-rolled alternative. Training Camp’s course leaned into those decisions, giving candidates room to reason through architectures aloud with an instructor rather than absorb a fixed set of right answers, since the exam rarely offers just one.

“The professional exams are where AWS stops asking what a service is and starts asking when you would use it,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “That is a harder question, and our course is built to get people comfortable answering it.”

The professional-level courses run in Training Camp’s accelerated, in-person boot-camp format, concentrating advanced material into a focused schedule for practitioners who cannot step away from work for long.
