Training Camp Expands Cloud & DevOps Certification Tracks

TREVOSE, Pa. — May 2020 — Two Microsoft Azure boot camps joined Training Camp’s cloud lineup this spring, bringing the AZ-204 developer and AZ-400 DevOps engineer certifications into a catalog that already leaned heavily on AWS.

The timing followed a clear shift in hiring. Organizations moving workloads to the cloud needed people who could build for Azure, not just administer it, and the AZ-204 exam targets exactly that developer skill set. AZ-400 sits a step further out, covering the DevOps practices that tie development and operations together through automation, continuous delivery, and monitoring. Microsoft had been closing the gap with AWS for years, and by 2020 plenty of enterprises ran both, which meant demand for Azure-specific skills was no longer optional for a lot of engineers.

Both credentials assume real experience. AZ-400 in particular expects candidates who already work with Azure and understand version control and release pipelines before they walk in. That made the accelerated format a good fit. Students came in with day-job context and used the week to close specific gaps rather than learn cloud from scratch. The AZ-204 course spoke to developers already comfortable in a language like C# who needed to learn how Azure services fit together, while AZ-400 assumed a working knowledge of both development and operations.

Delivered live online and in person, the new tracks joined existing AWS boot camps so engineers could pick the platform their employer actually ran. For teams standardizing on Microsoft, having Azure options under the same roof mattered.

“Employers stopped asking only for cloud administrators and started asking for developers and DevOps engineers,” said Mike McNelis, Vice President of Sales. “AZ-204 and AZ-400 were the credentials showing up in job postings, so we built the boot camps to match what people were being hired to do.”

The additions gave Training Camp coverage across both major cloud platforms at a time when remote work was pushing more infrastructure off premises. More Azure and automation offerings were planned as Microsoft revised its certification paths.
