Training Camp Expands Data Privacy and GDPR Training

TREVOSE, Pa. — 2018 — Training Camp has expanded its data privacy training, adding courses focused on the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation as enforcement began this year.

GDPR enforcement took effect across the EU in May 2018, and its reach surprised a lot of organizations. A company did not need a European office to fall under it. A single European customer was enough, and the penalties for getting it wrong ran high enough to command attention in the boardroom. Demand for people who genuinely understood the regulation quickly outran the supply.

Training Camp’s courses concentrate on the practical side, the governance and compliance work of putting the regulation into effect, rather than parsing the legal text line by line. The audience is privacy officers, IT and security staff, and compliance teams who have to translate the rules into day-to-day practice. That framing is deliberate. Lawyers can argue the statute, but someone still has to build the processes that keep an organization on the right side of it.

The regulation reset expectations well beyond Europe’s borders. Its rules on consent, data handling, breach notification, and the rights it gave individuals over their own information forced companies everywhere to look at how they collected and stored data. Training Camp aimed its courses at the staff who would carry that work, giving them a grounding in the regulation’s requirements and the operational steps needed to meet them without waiting for a legal team to interpret every clause.

“A business with one customer in Europe woke up to a whole set of obligations, and most did not have anyone on staff who knew the details,” said Mike McNelis, Vice President of Sales. “We focused the training on the practical work of compliance, because that is what our clients were asking for.”

With enforcement underway and regulators signaling they intended to act, GDPR knowledge became a near-term requirement for many organizations, and the training addressed a skills gap that had opened faster than the market could fill it.
