Training Camp Delivers First (ISC)² CCSP Boot Camp

PHILADELPHIA — 2015 — Training Camp has delivered its first boot camp for the Certified Cloud Security Professional credential, the CCSP certification (ISC)² created for security practitioners moving their work into the cloud.

By 2015 organizations were shifting real security programs onto cloud platforms, and the questions that came with that shift, how to handle data protection, identity, and compliance when the infrastructure belongs to someone else, did not map cleanly onto older security certifications. (ISC)² built CCSP to cover that ground, drawing on the same rigor behind its longstanding CISSP credential.

The certification fits experienced security professionals rather than newcomers, since it assumes a working grasp of both security fundamentals and cloud architecture. That prerequisite is real, and someone without either background tends to struggle. Training Camp ran the first cohort in its accelerated, in-person format, combining instruction with discussion of the cloud-specific scenarios the exam favors so candidates could reason through the material rather than memorize it.

The credential also filled a gap between general security certifications and the cloud-specific knowledge employers increasingly asked for. CCSP drew on six domains covering cloud architecture, data security, platform and infrastructure protection, application security, operations, and the legal and compliance issues that follow data across borders. Training Camp condensed that scope into an accelerated schedule, with an instructor working through the areas candidates tend to find hardest, particularly the intersection of shared responsibility and compliance. Getting a first cohort through the exam early also gave the company direct feedback on where students struggled.

“Security teams were being handed the cloud whether they felt ready or not, and CCSP gave them a way to prove they could handle it,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “Running that first class was a way to meet demand we were already hearing about.”

CCSP joined a small group of cloud security credentials at a point when the field was still taking shape, and it drew steady interest from practitioners who wanted a vendor-neutral standard.
