Training Camp Introduces First CHFI Combo Course

PHILADELPHIA — 2005 — EC-Council’s Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator credential now anchors Training Camp’s first CHFI combo course, pairing the forensics certification with complementary training in one accelerated program.

CHFI sits on the investigative side of security. Where a penetration credential is about finding and exploiting weaknesses, forensics is about what happens afterward, examining a compromised machine, recovering deleted or hidden data, and preserving evidence in a way that holds up later. The syllabus covered disk imaging, file system analysis, recovering deleted files, and the chain-of-custody rules that keep evidence admissible. The work is careful and procedural. A single mistake in handling evidence can undo an entire case.

Pairing CHFI with related material in one course reflected how the jobs actually overlapped. The people investigating an incident were often the same ones who understood how the attack was carried out. Teaching the two together, rather than as separate weeks months apart, saved students time and left them with a fuller picture, able to both trace how a breach happened and document it properly afterward.

The combined program suited incident responders, law enforcement technicians, and corporate security staff who needed both skill sets and could only take so much time away from the job. Training Camp ran it as a single classroom stretch, with lab exercises where students imaged drives and worked through recovering evidence rather than only hearing it described.
