Training Camp Adds Self-Paced CISSP and CISM Options

TREVOSE, Pa. — March 2021 — Training Camp introduced self-paced online versions of its CISSP and CISM courses this month, giving students a way to prepare for two well-known security certifications on their own schedule.

CISSP, from ISC2, remains one of the most requested credentials in security management, covering a broad body of knowledge from risk to architecture to operations. CISM, from ISACA, sits closer to the governance and management side, aimed at people who run security programs rather than configure them. Both carry experience requirements and both reward disciplined, sustained study. Employers had leaned on the two for years as a way to screen for security leadership, which kept demand for the underlying training steady even as delivery formats changed.

The self-paced option uses the same exam-focused courseware that sits behind the live boot camps. What changes is the pace. Instead of a fixed week with an instructor, students move through the material when it fits their work and life, revisiting sections as needed.

That flexibility comes with a tradeoff worth naming. Self-paced study asks more of the learner in discipline and momentum, since no schedule keeps them moving. For people who already know they study well alone, or who cannot clear a full week, it removes a real barrier. A boot camp imposes structure that some students need; self-paced study hands that responsibility back to them.

“Not everyone can block off a week, and some people simply learn better at their own pace,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “We wanted those students to get the same courseware our boot-camp attendees rely on, just delivered on their terms.”

The self-paced tracks joined Training Camp’s live online and in-person boot camps for the same certifications, letting students pick the format that matched how they work. For working professionals juggling deadlines and family, that control over timing was often the deciding factor. Additional self-paced titles were under consideration.
