Training Camp Celebrates 20 Years of Certification Training

TREVOSE, Pa. — May 2019 — Training Camp marked its twentieth year of accelerated certification training this month, a milestone that traces back to a handful of security courses offered in 1999.

Over two decades the format stayed recognizable. Students still learn from a live instructor, work through hands-on labs, and get support that carries all the way to exam day. What changed was the size of the catalog. A short list of security offerings grew into dozens of tracks spanning cybersecurity, cloud, networking, and project management, covering both vendor credentials and vendor-neutral ones. The vendor-neutral side, credentials that test skills without tying them to one company’s products, became a bigger part of that mix as employers looked for portable proof of ability.

That breadth reflects how the field itself expanded. In 1999 a security professional might have chased one or two certifications. By 2019 employers were asking for stacks of them across specialties, and the certifying bodies kept adding new exams to match. Training Camp’s answer was to keep the boot-camp model tight while widening what it covered, so a network engineer and a project manager could both find a path.

The accelerated approach was never for everyone. It rewards people who can commit to full days and come in with some background already. For those who can, compressing weeks of study into a focused week has real appeal.

“Twenty years in, the thing I’m proudest of is that we didn’t chase every trend,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “We stuck with live instruction and lab work because that is what actually gets people through their exams. The catalog grew because the industry did, not because we wanted a longer list.”

The anniversary arrived as demand for certified talent kept climbing across security and cloud roles. Training Camp said it planned to keep expanding its tracks while holding to the instructor-led format that defined its first two decades.
