Training Camp Adds Windows 2000 and MCSE Certification Training

PHILADELPHIA — 2000 — With Microsoft’s release of Windows 2000, Training Camp has added accelerated MCSE preparation, one of its earliest Microsoft certification tracks.

Windows 2000 was a significant change for anyone running Microsoft networks. It brought in Active Directory, a directory service that replaced the older Windows NT domain model and gave administrators a single, structured way to manage users, computers, and permissions across a large organization. Group Policy and a reliance on DNS came with it. For administrators, much of what they knew from NT had to be relearned.

The MCSE was Microsoft’s senior systems credential, and rebuilding it around Windows 2000 meant a substantial exam track rather than a single test. It ran to several exams covering both core operating system skills and network design. It was aimed at systems administrators and engineers responsible for designing and running these networks. Passing it was a real commitment, which is part of why a concentrated preparation format appealed to people already holding down a full-time job.

Training Camp taught the track in the classroom with hands-on labs, giving students actual Windows 2000 systems to configure rather than diagrams to memorize. Setting up a domain, creating group policies, and managing accounts is the sort of thing that sticks only when you have done it yourself. The compressed schedule kept the whole track within a defined block of days.

“Active Directory changed how these networks were built, and reading about it only gets you so far,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “We wanted people in front of real systems, making the changes and seeing what happened. That is how the material stays with you.”

The Windows 2000 track put Training Camp among the early providers of accelerated Microsoft certification training and gave the company a foundation in vendor certification work it would build on steadily. Active Directory would remain central to Windows networks for decades, and the MCSE stayed a recognized systems credential for years.
