Training Camp Launches Windows Server 2012 Certification Training

PHILADELPHIA — 2012 — Training Camp launched certification training for Windows Server 2012, the release that pushed Microsoft’s server platform toward cloud-style management and leaned hard into virtualization and remote administration.

Windows Server 2012 was a substantial change, not a maintenance update. Microsoft reworked Hyper-V, added Storage Spaces for pooling disks, extended PowerShell into a first-class administration tool, and rebuilt Server Manager so one console could manage many servers at once. The platform pointed toward administering machines remotely rather than logging into each one. The design reflected where infrastructure was heading: fewer administrators tending more machines, often without standing in front of them.

For administrators certified on earlier server versions, that meant real relearning. The training covers installation and configuration, Hyper-V and virtualization, storage, networking, and the administration features new to the release, mapped to the Microsoft certification track. It is aimed at working systems administrators and engineers who run Windows environments and need to get current before the new version reaches production. The shift toward PowerShell in particular asked longtime administrators to script tasks they had always done by clicking through a console.

Training Camp runs it as a compressed week of hands-on labs. Reading the release notes tells you what changed. Building it in a lab tells you how it behaves. The boot camp format lets an administrator get current in days and sit the exams, rather than picking up the new version piecemeal on live systems where mistakes are expensive.

“Server 2012 moved a lot of day-to-day administration toward managing machines you never physically touch,” said Chris Porter, Chief Executive Officer. “We would rather people make their first mistakes in our lab than on a production server.”

The release marked a clear step in Microsoft’s move toward the management model that would define its later cloud and hybrid offerings.
