AI Governance Foundations & Risk Management

This session begins with an orientation to artificial intelligence—what it is, how it works, and why governance matters. Participants will explore key AI technologies like machine learning and natural language processing, while gaining clarity on how AI systems are trained, deployed, and used in real-world environments. The session then shifts into foundational governance concepts, including transparency, fairness, accountability, and ethical risk. Learners will start connecting the dots between responsible AI development and business risk, setting the stage for applying structured governance frameworks.
L.01.1
In this session, the focus turns to recognizing and managing AI-specific risks. Participants will learn how to identify technical, ethical, and regulatory risks across the AI lifecycle. Real-world examples help illustrate how risks like bias, explainability gaps, or regulatory missteps can affect both organizations and individuals. The session also introduces tools for AI impact assessments, model documentation, and governance mechanisms that help organizations take a proactive approach to responsible AI use.

AI Governance in Practice & Compliance Readiness

The third session shifts from theory to organizational application. Participants explore governance models, from centralized to federated approaches, and learn how to align them with company culture and structure. Case studies and frameworks are used to show how organizations build cross-functional AI governance teams and implement internal policies to guide responsible AI use. Emphasis is placed on operationalizing AI governance through data quality controls, model validation, documentation standards, and alignment with organizational values.
L.02.1
In the final session, the focus is on the legal and regulatory environment around AI. Learners will examine current and emerging laws, including the EU AI Act, U.S. agency guidance, and other global frameworks shaping AI accountability. This session also prepares participants for the AIGP exam by reviewing the IAPP Body of Knowledge, offering exam tips, and working through practice questions. The session closes with a wrap-up discussion on how to apply what they’ve learned in their roles and organizations.
