Live Online. Hands-On. Built for the Exam.

Start Monday. Exam-Ready by Friday. Real Clusters. Mock Exam.

Five days for application developers, DevOps engineers, and operations staff who deploy to Kubernetes and want to prove it with the CKAD, with hands-on labs on real clusters every day.

Program Abstract

REF: CKAD 5
Curriculum aligned to the latest Exam Outline.
Format Live, Instructor-Led
Duration 5

The CKAD Is Hands-On. So Is This Class.

The CKAD exam puts you at a command line and asks you to build, deploy, configure, expose, and debug applications on a live cluster. This five-day boot camp trains the same way. Each topic pairs a short lecture with a lab on a real Kubernetes cluster, covering the five CNCF domains: application design and build, deployment, observability and maintenance, environment, configuration and security, and services and networking. The week ends with a mock CKAD exam and exam-day tips.

Built to the CNCF Curriculum.

Every module maps to a CKAD exam domain, from container images and multi-container Pods to Helm, Kustomize, NetworkPolicy, and Ingress. Each one pairs lecture with labs on a real cluster.

Mock Exam Before the Real One.

Friday ends with a timed mock CKAD exam that matches the real format, followed by a review of exam-day tactics. You book the real exam knowing exactly where you stand.

Real Clusters. Vendor-Neutral Skills.

You work on a live, high-availability Kubernetes cluster, not a slide deck, and deploy a cluster of your own during the week. Kubernetes is the same API everywhere, so the skills transfer.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Certified Kubernetes Application Developer
    Boot Camp FAQ

Real questions from real professionals who passed.
    Here's how we answer them.

The Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) is a performance-based certification issued by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) with the Linux Foundation. It proves you can design, build, configure, deploy, and expose cloud native applications on Kubernetes. The exam is solved entirely from a command line on live clusters, so CKAD training has to be hands-on to be useful.

The class runs five full days, Monday through Friday, delivered live online by an instructor. Each day pairs lectures with hands-on labs on a real Kubernetes cluster, and Friday ends with a mock CKAD exam. A 3-day CKAD Fast Track is also available for experienced Kubernetes users who want a shorter review.

No. The CKAD exam is purchased separately from the Linux Foundation for $445. That price includes one retake and a 12-month window to schedule the exam, so you can take it when you feel ready. The class ends with a mock CKAD exam to help you decide when to book your attempt.

The CKAD exam is 2 hours long. It is an online, proctored, performance-based exam: you solve a series of tasks from a command line on live Kubernetes clusters, currently running Kubernetes v1.35. There are no multiple-choice questions, so exam preparation means practicing kubectl and YAML until the commands are automatic.

CNCF does not publish the passing score for the CKAD on the exam page. Plan for the exam as it is: 2 hours of performance-based tasks on live clusters, where finishing tasks correctly is what counts. The mock CKAD exam on the last day of class shows you how you perform under that time pressure.

There are no formal prerequisites for this class. You should be comfortable at a Linux command line and understand basic container concepts such as images and running containers, since the first morning moves from containers into Kubernetes quickly. Prior Kubernetes experience is helpful but not required; the class builds from Pods and manifests upward.

This CKAD training is for application developers, DevOps engineers, and operations staff who deploy and run applications on Kubernetes, along with IT managers who want a working understanding of how those applications are built and shipped. The class suits anyone who plans to work with Kubernetes at any level and wants the CKAD as proof. Experienced users who only need a review can consider the 3-day CKAD Fast Track.

Each module pairs lecture with labs on a live, high-availability Kubernetes cluster, and during the week you deploy a cluster of your own with Ansible. Labs include building container images, configuring probes and security contexts, setting resource limits and quotas, mounting ConfigMaps and Secrets, using PersistentVolumeClaims, running sidecar and init containers, performing rolling updates and canary rollouts, writing NetworkPolicies, exposing services through Ingress, and packaging with Helm and Kustomize.

Take the CKAD if you build and deploy applications on Kubernetes; take the CKA if you install, operate, and troubleshoot the clusters themselves. Both are performance-based, command-line exams from CNCF in the same format, so the hands-on preparation style is identical. The CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) is the next step for security work, and it requires the CKA, not the CKAD.

The CKAD is valid for 2 years from the date you pass the exam. CNCF and the Linux Foundation set the renewal terms, so check the Linux Foundation certification page before your expiration date and plan your renewal around the Kubernetes version the exam is running at that time. Put the expiration date on your calendar the day you pass.

No. The CKAD is not listed on the DoD 8140 Approved Qualifications Matrix, and neither are the other CNCF certifications. If you need a credential for a DoD 8140 work role, check the current Approved Qualifications Matrix before you enroll in any class. If your goal is a Kubernetes skills credential rather than 8140 compliance, the CKAD is the developer-focused option from CNCF.

You get a second attempt at no extra cost, because the $445 exam fee from the Linux Foundation includes one retake within your 12-month scheduling window. You can also use your free course retake to attend this class again within one year of your original session, so you can work through the labs again before your second attempt. Post-class mentoring is available in between.

Many certifying bodies accept instructor-led vendor training hours toward continuing education, and this class is five full days of live instruction. Requirements differ by organization, so check with your certifying body on how it counts training hours and what documentation it needs. Keep your enrollment confirmation and class dates for your records.
