Understanding Access Point

An access point is a hardware device that enables wireless devices to link to a wired network infrastructure—usually via Wi-Fi. By acting as a bridge between these wireless users and the organization’s internal resources, the access point greatly enhances network accessibility. However, if it lacks adequate security configurations such as robust encryption and strong authentication, it can serve as an open doorway for unauthorized individuals. Effective safeguards typically include the use of WPA2 or WPA3 encryption, secure passphrases, frequent firmware updates, and other protective measures to reduce the risk of attacks.
