Bcrypt Definition: bcrypt is an adaptive Blowfish-based password-hashing function with a salt and tunable cost factor to resist brute-force attacks.
bcrypt is an adaptive password-hashing function designed by Niels Provos and David Mazieres in 1999, based on the Blowfish cipher and incorporating a salt to resist rainbow-table attacks. Its configurable cost factor lets defenders deliberately slow hashing to keep pace with hardware advances, making brute-force and dictionary attacks against stored password hashes far more expensive.
