Understanding BGP Local Preference

BGP Local Preference is a parameter used in Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to influence the path selection process for outbound traffic. It is a non-transitive attribute that assigns a preference value to routes received from a neighboring Autonomous System (AS) to favor certain routes over others when multiple routes to the same destination exist. Routes with higher Local Preference values are preferred over routes with lower values, allowing network administrators to control routing decisions within their own AS.
