Understanding Bit

Most essential representation of data at Layer 1 of the Open Systems Interconnection model. A bit is the fundamental unit of digital information that can have only two values: 0 or 1, representing the physical states of on or off, true or false, or high or low voltage. All digital data, including cryptographic keys, network communications, and stored information, is ultimately composed of bits. At the physical layer, bits are transmitted as electrical, light, or radio signals. Organizations implement bit-level security through encryption, checksums, and error correction codes. For example, cryptographic algorithms like AES operate on bits and bit patterns to transform plaintext into encrypted ciphertext.
