BPDU Definition: BPDU stands for Bridge Protocol Data Unit, which is a data message transmitted between switches in a network to prevent loops and ensure loop-free spanning tree configurations.
BPDU, or Bridge Protocol Data Unit, is a message used in spanning tree protocol (STP) to detect and prevent network loops in Ethernet networks. BPDUs are exchanged between interconnected bridges and switches to establish a loop-free topology by electing a root bridge and designating a single path to reach it, thus preventing the creation of loops that could lead to network instability or outages.
