Certificate Chain Definition: A certificate chain is a sequence of certificates, where each certificate is signed by the subsequent certificate, verifying the authenticity of a public key and the identity of the certificate holder.
A certificate chain in cybersecurity refers to a sequence of digital certificates that are linked together to verify the authenticity of a website or entity in a communication process. It typically includes the end-entity certificate issued to the website, intermediate certificates, and a root certificate from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA). The chain helps establish trust by ensuring that each certificate in the sequence is valid and issued by a trusted authority.
