What is Cross-Account Access?

Cross-account access lets identities securely reach resources in another cloud account via assumed IAM roles and temporary credentials, supporting least privilege.

Understanding Cross-Account Access

Cross-account access is a cloud security pattern that lets identities in one account securely access resources in another account, most commonly using IAM roles and trust relationships in AWS. Instead of sharing long-lived credentials, a principal assumes a role in the target account through an action like AssumeRole, receiving temporary, scoped credentials governed by both a trust policy and a permissions policy. This enables secure multi-account architectures while supporting least privilege and centralized governance.
