Understanding Dot1Q

Dot1Q (802.1Q) is a standard that defines VLAN trunking for Ethernet networks. It adds a 4-byte tag to Ethernet frames, allowing multiple VLANs to traverse a single network segment. This tagging scheme enables network administrators to logically segment traffic and improve network performance and security by isolating different groups of users or devices within the same physical network.
