IDS (Intrusion Detection System) is a cybersecurity technology that monitors network or system activities for malicious activities or policy violations and generates alerts or notifications to security administrators. IDS can be categorized as either network-based or host-based, with the former analyzing network traffic and the latter focusing on individual devices or servers. IDS helps to identify unauthorized access attempts, malware activities, and other potential security incidents within an IT environment.
