A Layer 2 switch is a network device that operates at the data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model. It uses MAC addresses to forward data within the same network or VLAN. Unlike hubs, Layer 2 switches filter and forward data based on MAC addresses, improving network efficiency and security by limiting the broadcast domain.
