LockBit is a prolific ransomware-as-a-service RaaS operation, active since 2019, that recruited affiliates to deploy its self-spreading encryption malware against enterprises worldwide using double extortion. Known for among the fastest encryption speeds and successive variants including LockBit 2.0 and LockBit 3.0 (Black), the group was significantly disrupted in 2024 by the international law enforcement action Operation Cronos.
