Understanding NAT

NAT (Network Address Translation) is a technique used to modify network address information in packet headers while they are in transit across a traffic routing device. NAT allows a device within a local network to use private IP addresses internally while appearing to external networks with a single public IP address. This helps conserve public IP addresses and adds a layer of security by masking internal network topology from external sources.
