Operational Technology Definition: Operational Technology (OT) refers to hardware and software systems used to monitor and control physical devices, processes, and infrastructure in industries such as manufacturing, transportation, and utilities.
Operational Technology (OT) refers to the hardware and software systems used to monitor, control, and manage physical devices, processes, and infrastructure in industrial environments. Unlike Information Technology (IT) systems, which primarily deal with data processing and communication, OT focuses on managing operational processes such as manufacturing, transportation, energy production, and more. OT systems often include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other specialized devices designed for specific industrial applications. OT cybersecurity aims to protect these critical systems from cyber threats that could lead to physical damage, disruption of operations, or compromise of safety.
