Smishing Definition: Smishing is phishing via SMS text messages that lures victims into sharing data or clicking malicious links by impersonating trusted senders.
Smishing is a social-engineering attack that uses SMS or other text messaging to trick recipients into revealing sensitive information, clicking malicious links, or installing malware. Messages often impersonate banks, delivery services, or government agencies and create urgency to prompt quick action. Because mobile interfaces obscure full URLs and users tend to trust texts, smishing can be highly effective; defenses include user awareness, link scrutiny, and not responding to unsolicited messages.
