Time To Live (TTL) is a value in an IP packet that determines the maximum amount of time the packet is allowed to live or be forwarded by routers before being discarded to prevent network congestion or looping.
TTL Definition: Time To Live (TTL) is a value in an IP packet that determines the maximum amount of time the packet is allowed to live or be forwarded by routers before being discarded to prevent network congestion or looping.
Time to Live (TTL) is a value in an IP packet that dictates the maximum number of hops (routers crossed) before the packet is discarded. It prevents packets from circulating indefinitely in a network loop. If the TTL reaches zero, the packet is dropped, and an ICMP "Time Exceeded" message is sent back to the source.
