A Web Application Firewall (WAF) is a security solution designed to monitor and control incoming and outgoing web traffic to and from web applications. It acts as a barrier between the web application and the internet, safeguarding against various web-based attacks such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and other common threats. WAFs analyze HTTP requests and responses, filtering out malicious traffic and unauthorized access attempts, while allowing legitimate traffic to pass through. They help protect web applications by enforcing security policies, detecting and blocking malicious payloads, and mitigating vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers.
