Training Camp Adds EC-Council CPENT Advanced Penetration Testing Boot Camp

TREVOSE, Pa. — September 2020 — EC-Council’s Certified Penetration Testing Professional, known as CPENT, joined Training Camp’s offensive security catalog this month, giving experienced testers an accelerated route to one of the field’s more demanding credentials.

CPENT is not an entry point. EC-Council built it for practitioners who already run assessments and want to prove they can handle environments that fight back. The exam pushes candidates through pivoting across segmented networks, evading defenses, and writing their own exploits rather than leaning on prepackaged tools. EC-Council had positioned CPENT above its more familiar ethical hacking credential, signaling a jump in difficulty rather than a lateral move.

Much of the value sits in the hands-on range. Rather than answering questions about attacks, candidates carry them out against fortified targets under time pressure. That practical bent is why the credential drew interest from red teamers and consultants who needed evidence of skill beyond a multiple-choice test. The range was designed to mimic a live corporate network, with the kind of segmentation and layered defenses a tester would meet on an actual engagement.

The accelerated boot camp, delivered live online and in the classroom, gave those professionals a structured week to work the range with an instructor on hand. It suited people who already had the fundamentals and wanted focused reps against harder scenarios. Anyone still learning the basics of penetration testing would have been better served elsewhere first.
