    CompTIA SecAI+ (CY0-001) is the industry’s first vendor-neutral certification focused on AI security. It validates your ability to secure AI systems, use AI to enhance security operations, and govern AI responsibly. CompTIA launched it on February 17, 2026 because security teams are now defending AI systems they did not build and did not choose, and no vendor-neutral credential covered that ground. McKinsey’s 2025 State of AI survey found 88% of organizations already using AI in at least one business function.

    SecAI+ is the first certification in CompTIA’s new Expansion Series. This tier adds specialized skills on top of existing Plus (+) certifications rather than replacing them. SecAI+ builds on Security+ by extending foundational security knowledge into AI systems, AI threats, and AI governance. CompTIA plans additional AI expansions for CySA+, PenTest+, and other pathways.

    Security+ validates traditional security skills. SecAI+ validates your ability to defend against AI-powered threats like automated phishing, deepfakes, and prompt injection attacks. It also covers securing the AI tools your organization is deploying, including LLMs, copilots, and RAG systems. For Security+ holders, SecAI+ is the natural next step to stay current as AI reshapes both attacks and defenses.

    CompTIA recommends 3 to 4 years of IT experience and approximately 2 years of hands-on cybersecurity experience. Security+, CySA+, or PenTest+ is recommended as a foundation. You do not need machine learning or data science experience. SecAI+ is designed for security professionals, not AI developers.

    SecAI+ covers four domains. Domain 1 (17%) covers AI concepts including LLMs, deep learning, prompt engineering, and data security. Domain 2 (40%) is the largest and covers securing AI systems, threat modeling with OWASP and MITRE ATLAS, implementing guardrails, and analyzing attacks like prompt injection and model poisoning. Domain 3 (24%) covers using AI for security tasks like anomaly detection and incident response, plus how attackers use AI. Domain 4 (19%) covers AI governance, responsible AI principles, and compliance with the EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, and ISO standards.

    The SecAI+ exam is 60 minutes with a maximum of 60 questions. Question types include multiple choice and performance-based. The passing score is 600 on a scale of 100 to 900. The exam costs $298 USD.

    Yes. Most organizations already use AI in email security, endpoint detection, SIEM platforms, and productivity tools like Microsoft Copilot. Shadow AI is also a growing risk as employees adopt unsanctioned AI tools. SecAI+ prepares you to identify, govern, and secure AI across your environment, even when AI is not explicitly part of your job title.

In practice that means large language models, copilots, chatbots, recommendation engines, fraud detection, predictive analytics, and security tooling. Add shadow AI, where employees adopt tools without IT approval, and the attack surface grows past whatever anyone has inventoried.
