Passing AI-901 earns Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals. It is the same certification AI-900 earned, with an updated exam.
No. The certification continues. Exam AI-900 retired on June 30, 2026, and AI-901 replaced it as the exam you sit to earn the credential.
AI-900 tested conceptual understanding with no coding required. AI-901 keeps the concepts but adds a hands-on implementation domain built around Microsoft Foundry, which carries the majority of the exam weight.
Two. Identify AI concepts and capabilities at 40 to 45 percent, and implement AI solutions by using Microsoft Foundry at 55 to 60 percent.
Microsoft recommends knowledge of Python coding syntax and programming techniques. Advanced coding is not required, but you should be able to read a code sample and understand what it does.
No formal prerequisites. Familiarity with Python syntax and Azure resources is recommended, and Microsoft notes you should be familiar with REST APIs, SDKs, and CLIs.
Foundry is Microsoft’s unified platform for building, deploying, and managing AI solutions on Azure. The implementation domain covers deploying models, building lightweight chat clients with the Foundry SDK, creating agents, and extracting information with Azure Content Understanding.
A score of 700 or greater out of 1000. The passing mark is scaled, not a raw percentage.
