A plain reference to CompTIA DataSys+, the vendor-neutral database administration certification, current as of October 2026. It covers the new DS0-002 exam, the six domains and their weights, the exam format and passing score, what happens to DS0-001, how renewal works, the jobs DataSys+ fits, and how it compares to Data+ and Microsoft DP-300.
CompTIA DataSys+ is the vendor-neutral database administration certification, first launched in July 2023, that validates the ability to design, deploy, manage, secure, and integrate relational and non-relational databases across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
It is written for people who already run databases. CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on database administrator experience, and the exam shows it: SQL you have to read and write, deployment and connectivity decisions, monitoring and tuning, security controls, backup and recovery, and, new in V2, pulling data in from other systems through ETL and ELT. None of it is tied to Oracle, Microsoft, AWS, or any other single platform.
DataSys+ is ANAB-accredited under ISO/IEC 17024. The current exam is DS0-002, launched October 13, 2026, and the original DS0-001 stays available in English until April 16, 2027. The certification is issued and maintained by CompTIA, the same organization behind Security+ and Data+.
Database and data types, SQL, scripting, and how code affects performance. 19% of the exam.
Planning, design, documentation, and database connectivity.
Monitoring, patching, tuning, indexing, and normalization.
Encryption, masking, governance, and access control. Tied for heaviest at 19%.
Backup and restore, disaster recovery, and high availability.
ETL and ELT, data quality, and AI concepts. New in V2 and the lightest at 13%.
Four things worth knowing about DataSys+ before you put it on your plan for 2026 and 2027.
Most database certifications prove you know one vendor's product. DataSys+ tests the job itself across relational and non-relational databases, on-premises, cloud, and hybrid, which suits teams that run more than one platform. CompTIA lists it among its ANAB-accredited certifications under ISO/IEC 17024.
CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on database administration before DS0-002, and the performance-based questions are where that shows. Treat it as a mid-career credential, a step past Data+, rather than a first certification.
The October 2026 DS0-002 revision added a sixth domain on ETL and ELT, data quality, and AI concepts, worth 13 percent. The domain breakdown below shows the full weights.
DS0-001, the original V1 exam from July 2023, stays available in English until April 16, 2027 and in Japanese until June 11, 2027. DS0-002 launched on October 13, 2026 in English only.
If you are partway through V1 study material, finishing on DS0-001 is a reasonable call. Starting from zero, prepare for DS0-002, which CompTIA recommends for the most current content. Both versions are listed on the CompTIA DataSys+ page.
The certification, the DS0-002 exam, and how to keep DataSys+ current, as of October 2026.
DataSys+ sets up three different directions: a vendor database credential, a security credential, or an advanced data science one. None of them requires DataSys+ first, and none of the CompTIA options renews it, so pick by the job you want next.
The vendor step for DBAs in Microsoft shops. DP-300 leads to the Azure Database Administrator Associate certification and covers Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs and on-premises. The exam runs 100 minutes, and the certification renews every 12 months through a free online assessment.
For DBAs moving toward security work. DataSys+ already gives 19 percent of its exam to data and database security, and Security+ widens that into threats, security architecture, and security operations across the whole environment. Earning Security+ does not renew DataSys+, so the two keep separate renewal clocks.
CompTIA's data science credential for highly experienced professionals, formerly called DataX. The DY0-001 exam runs 165 minutes, is scored pass or fail, and CompTIA recommends five or more years in data science. It is the target for DBAs moving into modeling and machine learning, not the next exam for most.
DataSys+ comes after the early-career data and IT credentials and a few years of database work. From there the path branches toward cloud databases, data security, or data science.

The vendor-neutral DBA credential
Two questions to answer before you commit: can you sit it, and should you pursue DataSys+ specifically. Here's a straight answer to both.
No prerequisites, no application.
DataSys+ has no formal prerequisites. You can buy a voucher and book DS0-002 without holding another certification, and CompTIA doesn't ask you to document work history first. That makes it a realistic target for developers and sysadmins who have picked up database duties along the way.
Two to three years is the target.
CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on database administration, and the performance-based questions assume it. If you have never restored a database from backup or read an execution plan, get that time in first, or start with Data+, where CompTIA recommends 18 to 24 months of analyst experience.
CompTIA lists database administrator, data analyst, and DevOps engineer as the roles DataSys+ supports. The other three below follow from what the DS0-002 objectives test.
The role DataSys+ is built around. Installs, configures, monitors and tunes production databases, manages access and backups, and keeps them available when the applications on top need them.
Runs managed and self-hosted databases in cloud and hybrid environments, where the DataSys+ connectivity, scaling and replication topics apply directly. Often paired with a vendor credential such as Microsoft DP-300.
Writes and tunes the SQL, stored procedures and functions that applications depend on. DataSys+ tests how ORM frameworks and generated SQL affect performance, which is where developer and DBA work overlaps most.
Builds the ETL and ELT pipelines that move data between systems. The Data Integration domain added in V2 covers data acquisition, data quality and schema mismatch troubleshooting.
One of the three job roles CompTIA lists for DataSys+. Fits analysts who also look after the databases they query and want to show they understand the systems under the reports.
Also on CompTIA's list. Automates database deployment, patching and monitoring as part of the release pipeline, and handles the server-side and client-side scripting DataSys+ tests in its first domain.
Data+ and DataSys+ are both CompTIA data credentials, but one analyzes data and the other runs the databases it lives in. DP-300 is the Microsoft-specific option for DBAs. Here's how the three line up.
| DataSys+ | Data+ | DP-300 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Issuer | CompTIA | CompTIA | Microsoft |

Pricing and renewal details vary by region. Microsoft updates the DP-300 skills outline on October 27, 2026, so check the Microsoft Learn study guide before you book. A vendor-neutral credential and a vendor one can sit side by side, and DataSys+ travels better if you change platforms later.

The DS0-002 exam is organized into six domains, and none carries more than 19 percent. Database Fundamentals and Data and Database Security lead, and the new Data Integration domain is the smallest at 13 percent. Click any domain for what it covers.
Relational and non-relational databases, and structured, semistructured and unstructured data. You write and read SQL here: queries, joins, CRUD operations, stored procedures and functions. It also covers server-side and client-side scripting and how ORM frameworks and generated SQL affect database performance.
Planning a database from requirements gathering through system design, validation and testing. Expect schemas, data dictionaries, entity relationship diagrams and SOPs, plus connectivity topics like networking, cloud environments, load balancing and how applications talk to the database.
Monitoring alerts, utilization, connections and system health, then acting on what you find. Patching, integrity checks, log reviews, performance tuning, indexing and normalization all sit here. It was the largest V1 domain at 25 percent and shrank in V2 to make room for data integration.
Encryption, key management, masking and auditing, along with data retention, privacy requirements and regulatory compliance. Authentication, authorization, identity management, Zero Trust principles and vulnerability management round it out. Tied with Database Fundamentals as the heaviest domain.
Backup strategies and proving that restores work, disaster recovery testing, failover and recovery objectives, plus high availability, redundancy and replication. Small by weight, but this is the domain where a mistake on the job loses real data.
New in V2. Data acquisition through ETL and ELT processes, data sources and connectivity methods, troubleshooting data quality problems and schema mismatches, and the AI concepts, machine learning tools and automation that now touch data pipelines.
Domains and weights reflect the CompTIA DataSys+ DS0-002 (V2) exam objectives, launched October 13, 2026. The retiring DS0-001 (V1) used five domains and stays available in English until April 16, 2027.
The questions candidates ask most often when researching the CompTIA DataSys+ certification.
CompTIA DataSys+ is a vendor-neutral database administration certification. It validates that you can design, deploy, manage, secure, and integrate relational and non-relational databases across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. CompTIA aims it at database administrators with two to three years of hands-on experience, so it reads as a working DBA's credential rather than a first certification.
The current exam is DS0-002, also called DataSys+ V2, which CompTIA launched on October 13, 2026. The original DS0-001 (V1), launched July 18, 2023, is still available until its English exam retires on April 16, 2027. The Japanese version of DS0-001 retires on June 11, 2027. CompTIA recommends V2 for the most up-to-date content.
V2 adds a sixth domain, Data Integration, worth 13 percent. It covers ETL and ELT processes, troubleshooting data quality problems and schema mismatches, and AI and machine learning concepts related to data integration. The other weights moved too. Database Management and Maintenance dropped from 25 to 18 percent, Database Fundamentals from 24 to 19 percent, and Data and Database Security from 23 to 19 percent, while Database Deployment rose from 16 to 17 percent and Business Continuity from 12 to 14 percent.
No. DataSys+ has no formal prerequisites, so anyone can register and sit the exam. CompTIA recommends two to three years of hands-on experience as a database administrator. That's a recommendation, not a requirement, but the exam is written for people who already run databases at work.
DS0-002 has a maximum of 90 questions and a 90-minute time limit. It mixes multiple choice with performance-based questions that put you in a simulated task. You need a scaled score of 700 on a scale of 100 to 900 to pass. At launch the exam is offered in English only.
Under DS0-002 the six domains are Database Fundamentals (19 percent), Database Deployment (17 percent), Database Management and Maintenance (18 percent), Data and Database Security (19 percent), Business Continuity (14 percent), and Data Integration (13 percent). No domain tops 19 percent, so you can't pass by mastering one area and skimming the rest.
As of October 2026, a single DataSys+ exam voucher costs $399 in the CompTIA US store, and a voucher with Retake Assurance costs $519. Prices vary by region. Training Camp's DataSys+ boot camp and self-paced bundle both include the exam voucher in the course price.
CompTIA lists database administrator, data analyst, and DevOps engineer as the job roles DataSys+ supports. The credential also fits cloud database administrators, database developers who write and tune SQL, and data engineers who build ETL pipelines, since V2 now tests data integration.
CompTIA's page for the DS0-001 exam names database administrator as its NICE and DoD 8140 work role. The DoD's own qualification matrix is what decides whether a certification qualifies for a position, and this guide could not confirm a DataSys+ entry on it. If you need DataSys+ for a cyber-coded DoD role, confirm it against the current matrix or with your command before you rely on it. See the full DoD 8140 work role paths.
DataSys+ is valid for three years from the date you earn it. You renew through CompTIA's Continuing Education program by earning 30 continuing education units in that cycle, from activities such as training courses, webinars, college courses, work experience, or a qualifying non-CompTIA IT certification, and by paying the CE fees. No other CompTIA certification fully renews DataSys+, so plan on earning CEUs.
Data+ is an early-career data analytics certification about analyzing, visualizing, and reporting on data. DataSys+ is about running the databases that data lives in: deployment, maintenance, security, backup and recovery, and integration. CompTIA recommends 18 to 24 months in a data analyst role for Data+ and two to three years of database administration for DataSys+.
Pick by platform. DataSys+ is vendor-neutral and covers relational and non-relational databases across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid setups. DP-300 leads to Microsoft's Azure Database Administrator Associate certification and goes deep on Azure SQL and SQL Server. If your shop runs mostly SQL Server and Azure, DP-300 maps closer to the job. If you support several database platforms, DataSys+ is the broader proof.
If you're already well into DS0-001 study material, you can still sit it in English until April 16, 2027, and it leads to the same DataSys+ certification. Anyone starting fresh should prepare for DS0-002, since it's the version CompTIA recommends and the only one that tests the new Data Integration domain. Check which version your course materials and voucher target before you book.
DataSys+ assumes on-the-job database experience, which is what makes it harder than an entry-level CompTIA exam. The performance-based questions ask you to apply SQL, security, and recovery skills rather than recall definitions, and the six domains are weighted closely enough that a weak spot anywhere shows up in your score. Hands-on DBA time and practice with the PBQ format are the best preparation.
For database administrators who want a vendor-neutral credential covering SQL, deployment, security, backup and recovery, and now data integration, yes. It's ANAB-accredited under ISO/IEC 17024 and runs on a three-year renewal cycle. It's less useful if your job lives entirely inside one vendor's platform, where a vendor certification like Microsoft DP-300 maps more directly to the work.
