What is DNS Filtering?

DNS filtering blocks malicious or restricted domains by refusing to resolve their DNS queries, stopping threats before connections form.

Understanding DNS Filtering

DNS filtering is a security control that inspects Domain Name System queries and blocks resolution of domains associated with malware, phishing, command-and-control, or policy-violating content. By refusing to return an IP address for disallowed names, it stops connections before they are established, often using threat intelligence feeds and category lists. It is a common, low-latency layer in secure web gateways, SASE platforms, and endpoint protection.
