Dropper Definition: A dropper is malware that installs or delivers secondary payloads onto a system while evading detection, often via phishing or trojanized files.
A dropper is a type of malware whose primary purpose is to install or deliver additional malicious payloads onto a target system, often while evading detection. Droppers typically contain or fetch the payload, decode or decrypt it, and execute it in memory or on disk, sometimes deleting themselves afterward to limit forensic traces. They are commonly distributed through phishing attachments, trojanized software, or exploit kits.
