Understanding EUI-64

EUI-64, or Extended Unique Identifier-64, is a method used in IPv6 addressing to assign unique 64-bit interface identifiers to network devices. This identifier is derived from the 48-bit MAC address of the device, with EUI-64 extending it to 64 bits by inserting a fixed 16-bit value in the middle. The resulting EUI-64 address aids in automatic address configuration for IPv6 networks.
