Galois Counter Mode GCM is an AES authenticated encryption mode in NIST 800-38D, used in TLS and IPsec for fast confidentiality and integrity.
Galois Counter Mode (GCM) Definition: Galois Counter Mode GCM is an AES authenticated encryption mode in NIST 800-38D, used in TLS and IPsec for fast confidentiality and integrity.
Galois Counter Mode GCM is an authenticated encryption with associated data mode of operation for block ciphers, most commonly used as AES-GCM. It combines counter mode encryption for confidentiality with a Galois-field-based hash to produce an authentication tag that verifies integrity and authenticity. GCM is standardized in NIST SP 800-38D, is highly parallelizable for performance, and is widely deployed in TLS, IPsec, and disk encryption, but it requires a unique nonce per key to remain secure.
