Purdue Model Definition: The Purdue Model segments ICS and OT networks into hierarchical levels and zones to isolate operational systems from enterprise IT.
The Purdue Model, derived from the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture PERA, is a hierarchical framework for segmenting industrial control system and operational technology networks into defined levels and zones. It separates enterprise IT layers from OT layers, placing a demilitarized zone between them to control data flow and limit lateral movement. The model is foundational to OT security standards such as ISA IEC 62443.
