What is Smart Grid Security?

Smart grid security protects digital electric grid systems, smart meters, and AMI from cyber threats that could disrupt power delivery or expose data.

Understanding Smart Grid Security

Smart grid security is the practice of protecting the digitally instrumented electric power grid, including smart meters, advanced metering infrastructure AMI, SCADA systems, and distribution automation, from cyber threats that could disrupt power delivery or compromise customer data. Because it bridges IT and operational technology, it must address risks such as meter tampering, false data injection, command spoofing, and demand-manipulation attacks. Guidance includes NIST IR 7628 and IEC 62351.
