The Microsoft Certified: Intelligent Applications Builder Associate replaced PL-200 in 2026, and this guide covers it as of October 2026. You'll find the AB-410 exam format and passing score, the three domains and their weights, the free annual renewal, and the Power Platform roles it fits.
The Microsoft Certified: Intelligent Applications Builder Associate, earned by passing exam AB-410: Building Intelligent Applications, is Microsoft's associate-level certification for people who build AI-powered business solutions in Microsoft Power Platform.
The exam expects you to build with Copilot and natural language prompts as well as with low-code tools. You create Dataverse data models, model-driven and canvas apps, and Power Automate cloud flows, then connect them to Copilot Studio agents, AI Hub prompts and models, and Power Pages sites. It took over from PL-200, the Power Platform Functional Consultant exam, which Microsoft retired on August 31, 2026.
AB-410 has no prerequisite certification, though Microsoft expects working familiarity with Copilot across Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages and Dataverse. It is issued and maintained by Microsoft. Microsoft announced the beta on May 27, 2026, and as of October 2026 the certification page no longer carries a beta label.
Solution design with AI-enabled tools, ALM strategy, and Dataverse data models with prompt columns. 25 to 30%.
Model-driven apps, generative pages, canvas apps, and Copilot Studio agents built from canvas apps. 25 to 30%.
Cloud flows, AI Hub prompts and models, business rules and process flows. The largest domain at 40 to 45%.
Four things that set the Intelligent Applications Builder apart from the Power Platform exam it replaced in August 2026.
Microsoft retired the Power Platform Functional Consultant certification, its exam and its renewal assessment on August 31, 2026, and named AB-410 as the related new credential. If PL-200 was on your plan, AB-410 is where that plan points now. A PL-200 you already hold stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript, but it can't be renewed.
The study guide asks for prompt columns and row summaries in Dataverse, generative pages built from natural language, AI Hub prompts and models inside apps and flows, and a Copilot Studio agent created from a canvas app. Expect AI tasks in all three domains, so you can't park them in a single study week.
AB-410 is one of the associate certifications that meets the prerequisite for the Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert (AB-100). Our Microsoft certifications guide maps the rest of the Power Platform track.
AB-410 is valid for one year and renews free through an unproctored, open-book assessment on Microsoft Learn. The renewal window opens six months before your expiration date, and there is no limit on renewal attempts. Microsoft doesn't claim a DoD 8140 mapping for AB-410. The current matrix is published at the DoD Cyber Exchange.
Its weight comes from the platform instead. Organizations that run on Power Apps, Power Automate and Dataverse need people who can build there, and AB-410 is the associate credential Microsoft now offers for low-code builders, with AB-400 covering code-first development.
The certification, the AB-410 exam, and how to keep the credential current, as of October 2026.
AB-410 covers the low-code build. From here, most people move up into architecture, go deeper into agents, or add code. The three below are the common next steps.
The move from building solutions to designing them. AB-100 covers architecting AI-driven business solutions across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry. You earn the Expert credential by passing AB-100 and holding one listed associate certification, and AB-410 is on that list.
The deeper agent track. AB-620 is for developers and advanced builders who extend Copilot Studio agents with Microsoft Foundry, MCP servers, custom connectors and APIs, and who build multi-agent solutions. If the agent itself is the product, rather than a feature inside an app, AB-620 is the better next step.
The code-first move. AB-400 extends Power Platform with code, and Microsoft expects experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, C# and RESTful web APIs. It replaced PL-400 for new registrations on October 16, 2026, and leads to the same Power Platform Developer Associate certification.
AB-410 sits at the associate tier of Microsoft's Power Platform path. PL-900 covers the groundwork underneath it, and from here the path branches toward architecture, advanced agents and code.

Two questions to answer before you commit: can you sit it, and should you pursue AB-410 specifically. Here's a straight answer to both.
No prerequisite certification required.
Microsoft doesn't require PL-900 or any other credential first. You register through Pearson VUE and test at a center or online with a proctor. PL-900 is optional groundwork for anyone new to the platform, and Microsoft says it isn't a prerequisite for any role-based certification.
Microsoft lists the skills it expects, and they're specific.
The study guide expects familiarity with Copilot in Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages and Dataverse, awareness of building agents in Copilot Studio, foundational knowledge of AI Hub prompts and models, and comfort with Power Fx. Build those things in a real Power Platform environment as you study. Reading about prompt columns and generative pages is no substitute for making them.
AB-410 fits the people who build and run business apps on Power Platform, especially as those apps start to include Copilot, prompts and agents.
Builds Dataverse data models, model-driven and canvas apps, and cloud flows for the business. AB-410 covers the low-code side of the job, and AB-400 adds code-first extension work when the role calls for it.
Designs canvas and model-driven apps with reusable components, Power Fx named formulas, error handling and accessible layouts, then adds Copilot features and agents where they help the people using the app.
Gathers requirements from stakeholders and turns them into working Power Platform solutions. This was PL-200 territory, and AB-410 is the credential Microsoft lists as the replacement for the retired PL-200.
Builds Power Automate cloud flows with triggers, connectors, approvals, conditions and loops, and calls AI Hub prompts from inside them. That work maps to the heaviest AB-410 domain.
Maps business processes to flows, agents and app capabilities, a skill Microsoft lists as a prerequisite for AB-410. Analysts who build their own working prototypes get the most out of it.
Builds with Copilot and natural language in Power Apps, Power Automate and Power Pages, and works with administrators and governance teams on environments, ALM and responsible AI.
AB-410 sits one level above the foundational PL-900, at the same associate tier as the agent-focused AB-620, and it took over from the retired PL-200. Here's how the four line up.

The AB-410 exam is organized into three domains, each carrying its own weight. Business logic and automation is the heaviest at 40 to 45 percent, so hours spent on cloud flows and AI Hub prompts pay off most. Click any domain for what it covers.
Designing Power Platform solutions with AI-enabled tools: analyzing requirements, evaluating built-in agents, recommending extensibility options and environment types, and applying a solution and ALM strategy. Then building the Dataverse data model, from tables, columns and relationships to prompt columns, row summaries, public views, main forms and security.
Building model-driven apps with forms, views, charts, dashboards and generative pages created from natural language, plus access control for forms, views and apps. Building canvas apps from data with reusable components, named formulas, user-defined functions, variables, collections and error handling, testing them with Monitor, and creating a Copilot Studio agent from a canvas app.
The heaviest domain. Recommending cloud flow triggers and connectors, managing approvals, and building flows with conditions and loops. Building prompts in AI Hub with knowledge, inputs and model settings, and consuming prompts and AI models in apps and flows. Configuring business rules, business process flows, and calculated, rollup and formula columns.
Domains and weights reflect Microsoft's AB-410 study guide, last updated October 16, 2026. Microsoft refreshes role-based exams periodically, so confirm the current outline on Microsoft Learn before scheduling.
The questions candidates ask most often when researching the Microsoft Intelligent Applications Builder certification.
The Microsoft Certified: Intelligent Applications Builder Associate, earned by passing exam AB-410: Building Intelligent Applications, is Microsoft's associate-level certification for people who build AI-powered solutions in Microsoft Power Platform. It covers Dataverse data models, model-driven and canvas apps, Power Automate cloud flows, and the prompts, AI models and Copilot Studio agents that plug into them.
No. Microsoft announced the beta on May 27, 2026, and said general availability would follow in July 2026. As of October 2026, the Microsoft Learn certification page carries no beta label, and Microsoft's practice assessment for the exam is now available on AI Skills Navigator.
Yes. Microsoft retired the Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate certification, exam PL-200 and its renewal assessment on August 31, 2026, and lists the Intelligent Applications Builder Associate as the related new credential. A PL-200 you already earned stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript, but it can no longer be renewed. The AB-410 skills list goes further than PL-200 did, adding Copilot, prompts, agents and generative pages to the Dataverse, app and flow work PL-200 covered.
There's no prerequisite certification, so you can register without PL-900 or anything else. Microsoft does list prerequisite skills: familiarity with Copilot in Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages and Dataverse, awareness of building agents in Copilot Studio, foundational knowledge of AI models and prompts in AI Hub, Power Fx, and working with Dataverse as the core data platform.
The three domains are Create a foundation for intelligent applications (25 to 30 percent), Create intelligent applications (25 to 30 percent), and Build business application logic and automation (40 to 45 percent). The third domain, which covers cloud flows, AI Hub prompts and models, and business rules, carries the most weight.
Microsoft doesn't publish a question count for AB-410. Its general guidance is that most certification exams have 40 to 60 questions, and the number can vary. Microsoft also doesn't name question types in advance, though its free exam sandbox lets you try the formats it uses. You get 120 minutes, and the exam page notes that it may include interactive components.
You need 700 on a scale of 1 to 1,000. It's a scaled score, so 700 doesn't mean 70 percent correct. Microsoft bases the passing line on the knowledge needed to show competence and on how hard the questions are. There's no penalty for guessing, so answer every question.
The AB-410 exam costs $165 USD in the United States as of October 2026. Microsoft sets the price by the country where you test, and local taxes can apply. You schedule it through Pearson VUE, at a test center or online with a proctor. Training Camp's Intelligent Applications Builder boot camp includes the exam voucher in the program fee, along with an exam retake.
No DoD 8140 mapping is claimed for it. Microsoft doesn't list AB-410 against a DoD 8140 work role, so don't count on it to satisfy a cyber-coded position requirement. Its value is in Power Platform work, where it shows an employer you can build apps, flows and AI features on the platform they already run. See the full DoD 8140 work role paths.
The certification is valid for one year. You renew it free by passing an unproctored, open-book renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn. The window opens six months before your expiration date, there's no limit on attempts, and each pass extends the certification one year from its expiration date.
AB-410 fits roles such as Power Platform Developer, Power Apps Developer, Power Platform Functional Consultant, Automation Developer, Business Analyst and Power Platform App Maker. Microsoft describes the candidate as someone who works alongside environment and security administrators, governance teams, agent developers, solution architects and business stakeholders.
If you already build in Power Apps or Power Automate, go straight to AB-410. If the platform is new to you, PL-900 Power Platform Fundamentals is a 45 minute exam on its business value and core capabilities. Microsoft says PL-900 isn't a prerequisite for any role-based certification, so the choice depends on your starting point.
It's an associate-level exam with a wide scope. The study guide spans Dataverse modeling, model-driven and canvas apps, cloud flows, AI Hub prompts and business logic, and close to half the weight sits in the logic and automation domain. People who build in Power Platform every week have an edge, especially with newer features like prompt columns and generative pages. You can open Microsoft Learn during the exam, but the clock keeps running while you read.
For people who build on Power Platform, yes. PL-200 has retired, so AB-410 is now Microsoft's associate credential for low-code Power Platform builders. It also counts toward the AB-100 Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert, and it renews free each year. It's less useful if you don't build on the platform, where PL-900 or a credential for the stack you actually run fits better.
