OPC UA Definition: OPC UA IEC 62541 is a secure, platform-independent industrial communication standard for OT and IIoT with built-in authentication and encryption.
OPC UA, or OPC Unified Architecture, is a platform-independent, service-oriented communication standard IEC 62541 for secure, reliable data exchange in industrial automation and the Industrial Internet of Things. Unlike the older Windows-bound OPC Classic, it offers a rich information model, transport over TCP or HTTPS, and built-in security including authentication, signing, and encryption. Proper hardening requires enabling security policies, certificate management, and disabling anonymous or unencrypted endpoints.
