Understanding Ransomware Affiliate Model

The ransomware affiliate model is the partner-program structure underpinning Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS), in which a core developer group builds and maintains the ransomware and supporting infrastructure while independent 'affiliates' carry out the intrusions and deploy the payload. Profits from successful extortion are split between the operators and affiliates, often 70-80% to the affiliate. This division of labor lets less-skilled attackers run ransomware campaigns and dramatically scales the volume of attacks.
