Rogue Access Point Definition: A rogue access point is an unauthorized wireless AP on a network, used to create backdoors or impersonate legitimate Wi-Fi to steal data.
A rogue access point is an unauthorized wireless access point connected to a network without the administrator's knowledge or consent. It may be installed innocently by an employee or maliciously by an attacker to create a backdoor into the network or to lure users into connecting. Closely related is the evil twin, a rogue AP that impersonates a legitimate SSID to intercept traffic and harvest credentials. Wireless intrusion detection systems and regular site surveys are used to detect and remove them.
