Understanding Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)

Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) are pre-approved, model data protection terms adopted by the European Commission that provide a lawful mechanism for transferring personal data from the EU and EEA to third countries lacking an adequacy decision under the GDPR. The current modular SCCs, adopted in 2021, address controller-to-processor and other transfer scenarios and typically require a transfer impact assessment to ensure protections are effective in the destination country.
