Mirai Botnet Definition: The Mirai botnet infects IoT devices via default credentials to launch massive DDoS attacks; its leaked source code spawned many variants since 2016.
Mirai is a self-propagating malware that conscripts Internet of Things devices such as IP cameras, routers, and DVRs into a botnet by scanning for devices using default or weak credentials. First identified in 2016, it powered some of the largest distributed denial-of-service attacks ever recorded, including the attack on DNS provider Dyn. After its source code was publicly released, numerous variants emerged, making Mirai a persistent foundation for IoT-based DDoS threats.
Mirai Botnet is one of the topics you'll master in the CEH Boot Camp.
